BACKLINK BASICS EXPLAINED

WHAT ARE BACKLINKS?

Backlinks, also known as inbound links or incoming links, are links from one website to another. They are used by search engines to determine the popularity and importance of a website. The more backlinks a website has, the higher it will typically rank in search engine results pages (SERPs). Backlinks can be obtained naturally as other websites link to a website's content, or they can be acquired through link building efforts.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY

However many backlinks you decide to build monthly, you should be consistent in your efforts. If your website is brand new, you should build around 10 backlinks per month. If you have an established website, you should build between 40-50 backlinks per month.

MUTLIPLE WEBSITE TARGETING

It's important to target different types of websites when building backlinks. You shouldn't only target one platform of websites, as this will raise a Red Flag with Google as they want the link-building efforts to appear natural.
HERE ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF WEBSITES AVAILABLE ONLINE:
Web 2.0 Sites
Directory Sites
Social Media Sites
Forum Sites
Blog Sites
Article Directory Sites
Press Release Sites
Guest Post Sites

DO FOLLOW AND NO FOLLOW LINKS

There are two types of backlinks: Dofollow and Nofollow. Google measures the number of Do-Follow links pointing to your website and ignores the No-follow links, however, you must have both pointing to your site to make your link-building efforts appear natural. Do Not only link from Do Follow links. No-Follow links have the following HTML code next to them: rel=”nofollow”.
DO FOLLOW AND NO FOLLOW PERCENTAGE
Do Follow = 75%
No Follow = 75%

TARGET HIGH DA SITES AND LOW SPAM SCORES

It's important to target websites with High DA (Domain Authority) and low Spam Scores. To determine the value of these websites, please download the following extension on your browser- https://moz.com/products/pro/seo-toolbar. You may need to sign up and create an account at https://moz.com.
Once you have installed the Extension on your browser, click the "M" located on the Top Right. Three metrics will appear.
DA = Domain Authority
PA= Page Authority
Spam Score

STRATEGY

You should target websites with a DA of 20 and over. The higher the DA, the better the link juice. Do not link from websites with High Spam Scores, even if they have a high DA or PA.

TARGET RELATIVE WEBSITES

When building backlinks, you must target websites that complement your industry. For instance, if you have an online shoe store, you could target and reach out to Online Clothing Stores that do not offer shoes. Send the website owner an email, and offer them something in exchange for your backlink to be placed on their site.
You could offer them:
Informative Article
Software program
